Vivian A. Wachob

Vivian Ann Wachob (née Kiwisild), 91, of Penn Yan, New York, passed away on October 21, 2026. Born in Brookhaven, New York, she was the daughter of Johannes Kiwisild and Elizabeth Karro, immigrants from Estonia. She graduated from Bellport High School in 1953 and attended Cortland State Teachers College in Cortland, New York, where she majored in Recreation Education. Upon graduation, Vivian embarked on a teaching career in Kenmore, NY, while she lived with her beloved uncle, Alex Karro.

Vivian was the proud Navy wife of the late Commander James R. Wachob. She was also predeceased by her parents, her brother, James Kivisild, and cousin Nelson Karro.

A talented seamstress, Vivian enjoyed sewing, relaxing at the family’s lakeside cottage, and coaching synchronized swimming at Keuka College. Affectionately known as “Coach” by her swimmers, she took great pride in watching them succeed both in and out of the pool.

Known for her strong will and no-nonsense nature, Vivian ruled with an iron fist but loved her family deeply. To her grandchildren, she was lovingly known as “Ema,” a devoted grandmother who took great joy in caring for them, always making sure they had full bellies and knew they were loved.

Vivian is survived by her daughter, Heather; her son, Grant, and daughter-in-law, Kristina; her grandson, Ian; her granddaughters, Reese and Rayna; and many nieces and nephews.

Vivian will be remembered for her strength, devotion to family, and the lasting impact she made on those she loved and coached. She will be dearly missed by her family, her former swimmers, and all who knew her.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
