Shirley M. Travis

Shirley M. Travis passed away peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2026 at Light Hill Comfort Care in Canandaigua, NY after a long and fulfilling life.

Shirley was born in Penn Yan on June 7, 1932, the daughter of Irving and Leila Havens. She enjoyed her childhood in Benton Center, graduating from Penn Yan Academy in 1950. Shirley married Charles Travis in 1951. While raising four children, she became Head Teller at the Security Trust Plaza Bank.

When both she and Charlie retired, they spent many winters traveling cross country, appreciating the beauty and wonders of our United States. Also, they faithfully attended numerous sports events of their beloved grandchildren, and hosted many family events at their Seneca Lake home of 37 years. Most close to their hearts was their “getaway” camp in Old Forge in the Adirondack Mountains.

Shirley was an avid reader and loved the challenge of difficult jigsaw puzzles. She was a constant conversationalist, recalling many vivid tales and details of her life’s adventures. Also, Shirley was a very lucky winner on their gambling adventures. She was our family matriarch, full of strength and character, loved by family and her many friends.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband Charles, of 60 years; her parents; and brother George Havens.

She is survived by her four children, Linda, Sandra, Stephen and Brian, and loving daughter-in-law, Terri Travis; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Also by her brothers Irving and Charles Havens.

There will be no calling hours per her request. The family will hold a private family arrangement at the Benton Cemetery at a later date.

The amazing, sincere care and heartfelt support from Light Hill meant so much to Shirley and her family in her final days.
