Richard (Rick) L. McCann, 74, of Penn Yan passed away on October 22, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved him dearly and countless memories that will forever bring smiles, laughter, and warmth to their hearts.
Rick was a huge-hearted, lovable man who cherished his family more than anything. He was the kind of person who never wanted you to leave when you came to visit. There was always time for another story, another laugh, and just a little more time together. His presence filled a room, and his stories were something everyone loved to listen to and will continue to remember for years to come.
Rick had a mischievous side that made growing up around him an adventure. When his nieces and nephews were younger, he loved getting them into trouble with their great-grandma. He would stand behind her and play air drums on her head, or sit in his chair spitting spitballs at the kids, always finding a way to stir up laughter and a little chaos. Those are the kinds of memories that will forever bring smiles to the faces of those who knew and loved him.
Even as a kid, Rick had a way of doing things his own way. He absolutely hated mashed potatoes and would sneakily throw them behind the bathtub so he could hurry outside and play with his siblings and their friends. At times he would need to hide on his sisters as they thought it was funny to throw darts at him. That's just a couple of the many stories that became part of the family history and another reminder of the unforgettable personality that was Richard.
In his younger years, Rick worked at Coach and Equipment. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, especially playing cards with his sister on Saturdays and sharing a nice, cold Coors Light with friends. It wasn't about anything fancy for Rick. It was about spending time with the people he cared about, sharing stories, laughing, and making memories.
Richard leaves behind his sister, Linda McCann Shomaker, Brother-in law Howard Fox; Nieces, Brandy (Mike) Shrouder, Michele (Curtis) Thompson, and Christina (Tracy) Miller; and Nephews, TJ Nissen, Daryl (Hayden) Annony, and Jamie (Mandy) Tymtoryd, along with many great and great great nieces and nephews and loved ones who will miss him dearly.
Rick has joined his mother and father and 3 loving sisters Joan, Sandy and Sherry along with his nephew Jody in heaven.
Though Rick may no longer be sitting in his favorite chair, telling stories, playing cards, or finding a way to make everyone laugh, his spirit will live on in the memories he leaves behind. His family will carry with them the laughter, the mischief, the stories, and, most of all, the love he gave so freely.
Rick was one of a kind. He was loved beyond words and will be missed more than words can ever express.
Rest easy, Rick. You will forever be loved, forever be remembered, and never be forgotten.
The family will have a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in honor of Rick to the Yates County Humane Society.
