On Wednesday May 17, 2023 our Mother and moral teacher, Norma Jean Van Scoy Gray, age 92 of Penn Yan, New York passed away at the Homestead of Soldiers and Sailors Hospital from natural causes.

Norma was born in Rochester, NY on April 6, 1931, the daughter of the late Stanley and Evalena Van Scoy. She graduated from Dundee High School in 1949. Norma was a stay-at-home Mother and worked in Office Administration and Housekeeping for many years.

Norma enjoyed cooking, playing cards, sewing, entertaining friends and family, and was always available to babysit her grandchildren. She was also an Elks Club Doe.

She is survived by her daughters Carla Fingar of Endicott, NY and Cindy Gray of Estero, FL; her sons Terry Gray of Euclid, OH, Tom Gray of Naples, Fl, and Tim Gray of Gorham, NY; her brother Stanley Van Scoy, Jr.; her grandchildren; Haley (Bill) Barrar, Troy Fingar, Megan Fingar, Molly (David) Bero, Karl (Lexi Perrot) Gray, Evalena Gray, Carlos Vasquez, Scott Gray, and Kevin Gray ; great-grandchildren; Gavin, Gwendolyn, Isla Mae, Elsie, and Sienna; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Norma was predeceased by her husband of 40 years Carl Gray in 1992.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Elks Club of Penn Yan on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Noon.

Norma's family would like to thank the the Staff and Nurses of the Homestead for taking such great care of their Mother.
