Marshall J. Harris of Penn Yan, NY passed away on March 9, 2026 after a brief illness. Marshall is survived by his daughters Deborah Harris (Michael) from Elmira, NY, and Kelly Becker (Brian) from Austin, TX, his son Troy Harris (Jessica) from Rumney, NH; his brother Ronald Harris (Sandy),from Penn Yan, NY; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Marshall was preceded in death by his mother Rita, father Loren Harris, and his brother Victor Harris, all of Penn Yan, NY.
Marshall spent most of his life in Penn Yan and was known as “Bubby” by residents of the village. He was actively involved in the community his entire lifetime and gave much of his time to help make it a better place. Marshall was one of the driving forces in developing the Penn Yan Junior Football League, a league that has been the starting point for so many of Penn Yan’s great athletes, many of whom would go on to help bring home state championships to Penn Yan Academy, to play in college, and some even making it to the NFL. He was an active participant in the Yates County Men's Slow Pitch League for more than two decades, and he spent countless summers working to make sure that the fields were in pristine shape for game nights. Marshall was also a youth baseball and football coach, and he also spent many years working with Keuka College’s Softball Program. Marshall prided himself as an umpire as well, getting the rare opportunity to work the ASA National Championship game in Columbus, OH on multiple occasions. Marshall was one of Penn Yan’s most recognizable citizens and will be greatly missed by those who knew him. Marshall also served his country as a veteran of the Vietnam War as a member of the U.S. Army.
Marshall loved being with his children and grandchildren and provided everything he could to help make their lives better. He talked fondly of his memories of visiting New Hampshire and always longed to return to visit his family in the Granite State. He always looked forward to visits with his daughter and grandkids from TX. He spent many holidays in Elmira with his daughter and grandchildren, and was always the life of the celebration. It is with a heavy heart that his family received the notice of his passing.
