Donald J. Rumsey

December 31, 1976 – June 17, 2026

Donald J. Rumsey, age 49, of Corning, NY, died at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY on June 17, 2026, after a series of strokes.

Born in Gillett, PA, on December 31, 1976, he was the son of Dean & Tina (Post) Rumsey and was raised by his second parents, Bill & Nancy Dibble. He was the husband of Vanessa (Baldwin) Rumsey, who survives. Don was a graduate of Troy High School, Troy, PA, and the Isabella Graham Hart School of Practical Nursing in Rochester, NY. At the time of his death, he was employed by the National Soaring Museum in Elmira, NY as Operations Manager, and had previously worked at the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport, NY as Education Director. He and his wife had also operated a business in Penn Yan, Flying Colors, for several years.

Before moving to Corning, Don and his family lived in Branchport, NY, where he was an active member of the Branchport Keuka Fire Department. Don enjoyed bowling, golf, and family trips, especially trips to Tennessee. He was a friend to many, always ready to lend a hand. A real extrovert, Don endeared himself to co-workers and customers alike. His good sense of humor made him fun to be around. He was a great storyteller and could make an ordinary day sound like an adventure.

In addition to his wife, Vanessa, he is survived by their daughter, Taylor Rumsey; his sons, Dakota Rumsey and Dylan Rumsey; his daughters, Currynne Rumsey, Jossalynn Rumsey; and two stepdaughters, Aubrey (Matt) Miiller and Gretchen (Xen) Miiller; a sister, Michelle (Ben) Jackson, grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don’s name to the Branchport Keuka Park Fire Department, The National Soaring Museum, or Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network.

The family will hold a celebration of Don’s life at the convenience of the family.
