Donald L. Rast

Donald Lee Rast, 69, of Penn Yan, NY, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026 at Strong Memorial Hospital after an 8 year long battle with cancer. He was born in Columbus, MS on July 22, 1956 the son of Betty and Bill Adams (Nana & Bopa). Don graduated from Marcus Whitman High School in 1976 and went on to serve with the US Army National Guard.

Don was a long haul truck driver for over 40 years. He enjoyed racing, demos, camping and trucking. He also liked tractor pulls, fishing, hunting, horseshoes and playing pool. But above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He was predeceased by his father, Bill in 2014; mother, Betty in 2019; sister, Barb in 2013; and great grandson, Phillip in 2025.

Don is survived by his loving companion of 14 years, CC Hand; daughters, Shelly of Palmyra, NY, Anna of Penn Yan, Debbie of Geneva, Danielle of PA, and Billie Jo (Mikey) of Penn Yan; son, Joey (Rachel) Rast of Branchport; step-daughter, Tiffani of Penn Yan; sister, Sandy “Midge” (Les Norton) of Bluff Point; 14 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Ross Newcomb, Mason Covell and families.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 from 4-6 pm at Townsend-Wood & Zinger Funeral Home, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Yates County, 1216 State Route 14A, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
