David N. Wernsing

Following a long and courageous battle with cancer, David Neal Wernsing, 71, of Dresden, NY took his final breath on Wednesday April 22, 2026 at 1:48 AM. His loved ones Sue and Eli were by his side.

Dave was born January 16, 1955, the son of the late Joan and Walter Wernsing.

From an early age Dave had a love for cars and anything on wheels. Throughout his life he enjoyed 4 wheelers, dirt bikes, motorcycles, snowmobiles, and of course cars. He said that he had 21 cars before his 21st birthday. He could tell a cars make, year, model and history of a car from miles away. Dave had a passion for British cars and his motto was that “one could never have too many British cars”. He enjoyed taking his cars to car shows, letting people and kids sit in his cars and taking them for rides. He thought cars were for driving and enjoyment, not just for show. He met a lot of interesting people with his cars, especially Dennis, Garry, and Eric who were brought together by chance and remained friends over the years because of their mutual love of cars.

Music was an important part of Dave’s life. The radio was always playing in the house and when he was outside the stereo in the garage was on while he was fixing or washing the cars, puttering around the garage or just sitting on the patio enjoying the day. He especially enjoyed the music of Jimmy Buffet and The Eagles.

Dave was a man of many talents. There was nothing he couldn’t fix or build. He had an outgoing personality and was always looking for a way to help someone in need or make their life better.

He worked many jobs over his lifetime putting his skills to work. The last being in maintenance for the Elmcrest senior apartments in Geneva. He formed a strong bond with the residents. They loved him because he was so kind and caring.

Dave is survived and will be sadly missed by Sue and his English Springer Spaniel Eli. His sisters Linda ( Bob) of N. J. Susan of Syracuse and his brother William ( Brenda) of Colorado. Beloved nephew Jeff( Fernanda) of California and niece Andrea( Sean) and great nephew Rowen of CT, Kate and great nephew Alex of N.J. Sonja and her family of Watkins Glen had a special place in Dave’s heart. He considered her like a daughter.

Dave will be remembered by his many friends in Dresden especially Tommy, Steve, “tractor” Adam and Brian. They had a lot of fun times together. Special people like Nancy (olive oil), Bonna, Norma, Sheryl and Donna Rae and the Methodist Church ladies kept him laughing and looked out for him with their prayers and support.

Dave was pre deceased by his parents and nephews Matt and Scott.

Remember Dave when you see a British convertible drive by, by donating or helping out at your favorite humane society or paying it forward and doing an act of kindness for someone in need.

Dave, may the Lord our God hold you forever in the palm of his hand.

A beautiful 1961 yellow MGA convertible just pulled up to take Dave to heaven. Enjoy the ride, my love!!

A celebration of life in honor of Dave will be at the Dresden United Methodist Church, 60 Cornelia St., Dresden on May 2, 2026 at 11:00AM followed by a luncheon and a time to share happy memories.
