Dana R. Schillinger

Dana R. Schillinger, 94, of Penn Yan, NY, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026 at Geneva General Hospital in Geneva, NY. He was born April 27, 1932 in Avon, NY, to the late Elton and Carrie Mae (Woodruff) Schillinger. Dana lived a life marked by steadfast service, committed leadership, and deep devotion to his family and his community.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Helen, whom he married on November 8, 1958 in Philadelphia, PA. Together they built a family legacy centered around love, support, and mutual respect. Dana's memory is cherished by his daughters: Cyndy Rochford of Penn Yan, Karen (David) Gorgonzola of Honey Brook, PA, and Diane (Mark) Aberi of Skaneateles, NY. He took immense pride and joy in his role as a loving grandfather to Patrick (Stephanie) Gorgonzola, Benjamin Gorgonzola, Madeline (Ryan), Caroline and Molly Rochford, Jackie, and Kate Aberi, and great-grandfather tor Brianna Gorgonzola. Dana is also survived by his sister, Gayle (Donald) Barrett of Henrietta, NY.

Dana’s education began with graduation from Lima High School, followed by his study at the Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy, graduating in 1957, signifying his early commitment to service.

A proud veteran, Dana served two years of active duty with the United States Navy. His dedication to his country continued through two decades in the US Naval Reserves, where his leadership saw him rise to the position of Commander before retiring in 1978.

Dana worked much of his professional life as a mechanical engineer. He was last employed by General Railway Signal, retiring in 1994.

Dana was committed to giving back to his community. He served on both the town planning and school boards in Victor, NY; his thoughtful approach contributed tremendously to the community’s development. Dana also gave generously of his time on the board of the Finger Lakes Health Foundation. One of his proudest contributions was to Keuka College, where he served as a valued member of the Board of Trustees from 1995 to 2011. Afterwards, he was honored as Trustee Emeritus, a distinction he held for the remainder of his life. Reflecting his enduring commitment, he attended his last board meeting as recently as June.

Faith played a central role in Dana’s journey. He was a long time member of the United Methodist Church in Victor and, for the past 30 years, was a member at the Bluff Point United Methodist Church.

Outside of his professional and civic accomplishments, Dana’s greatest joys came from the beauty of nature, the lake, and the company of those he loved most. He was a faithful steward of the lake and enjoyed fishing, boating, and swimming in Keuka Lake. Cherished moments were found in his flower garden, on daily walks with Helen, and in quality time spent with his children and grandchildren.

Dana will be remembered always for his integrity, generosity, and the warmth he brought into the lives of so many.

A Funeral Service with full military honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Norton Chapel at Keuka College. Parking will be available at the main campus, near Ball Hall, 141 Central Ave., Keuka Park, NY 14478. All who knew and were touched by Dana’s remarkable life are invited to attend and celebrate a life so well lived. Private burial will held at Oakridge Cemetery in Lima, NY.
