Cheryl A. Cougevan, 83, of Penn Yan, NY, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026 at Geneva General Hospital.
She was born in Westfield, PA on June 16, 1943, the daughter of the late Arnold and Phyllis Bush and graduated from Wellsboro High School. On November 19, 1967, she married James Cougevan in Wellsboro.
Cheryl was an Administrative Assistant for Ferro Corporation, retiring in 2002.
Cheryl was an avid reader. She enjoyed shopping with her grandchildren and loved spending time at the lake every summer.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James M. “Jim” Cougevan; daughters, Bridget (Chris) Hart, Shannon (Gary) Marble, and Heather Cougevan; brothers, Arthur (Paula) Bush, and Richard (Charisse) Bush; brother-in-law, Greg (Lonnie) Cougevan; eleven grandchildren, Thomas (Megan) Hart, Colby (Leah) Marble, Sarah Hart, Allison (Eric) Schanbacher, Katherine (Zach) MacNeil, James Hart and McKenzie Jane Hart; four great grandchildren, Claire and Hailey Hart, and Winifred and Genevieve MacNeil; and six nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Brian and Betty Cougevan.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at 11:00 am at St. Michael’s Church, 312 Liberty St., Penn Yan, NY. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Yates County, 1216 State Route 14 A, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
